Look at latest green products on the market

(26 Feb 2009)
1. Mid shot Green Expo sign
2. Wide pan expo
3. Pull out 360 Vodka bottles
4. Mid shot man shaking drink mixer
5. Tight shot pouring vodka drink into cup
6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Simon Hancock, representative of 360 Vodka:
“The niftiest thing about this product I believe is the swing-top closure. So once you’re done with the bottle, send it back to us in the pre-paid envelope, which is also a 100 percent recycled, and we’ll reuse the top in a future bottle and donate a dollar to an environmental cause.”
7. Tight shot 360 Vodka coaster, which has flower seeds implanted inside of it
8. Tight shot “Flush Puppies” bio-degradable dog faeces bags
9. Mid shot man placing doggy bag into water tank
10. Mid shot of lifting partially disintegrated doggy bag out of tank
11. SOUNDBITE: (English) Josh Spoont, Flush Puppies co-owner
“A lot of these bags that claim to be bio-degradable really aren’t. They degrade, they’ll break apart in the landfill, but they won’t actually biodegrade. Flush Puppies are 100 percent bio-degradable, so whether you flush them down the toilet or you put them in the trash, the environment wins.”
12. Pan of cardboard designed products
13. Tight shot cardboard designed vase being changed from one shape to another
14. Mid shot handbag made out of recycled newspaper
15. Pan from computer to solar powered laptop charger
16. SOUNDBITE: (English) Malaika Ashecroft, Eco Geek Living co-owner
“It’s cheaper for you as a consumer, over time, to use an eco-friendly product that operates on alternative energy. Because, like I said, I think a lot of people only think about the initial offsetting cost of the product and a product that’s going to last 20, 25 years, is going to cost you a little bit more to buy, like a solar powered laptop charger, but will last you that amount of time and you’re not going to have to pay for the general maintenance of it. The product requires no maintenance. The energy it uses to operate is free.”
17. Tight shot solar panels on laptop charger
18. SOUNDBITE: (English) Kevin Nichols, Green Expo organiser
“Consumers are looking at this company as a whole to see whether they’re sustainable, see their manufacturing process. That’s the next step and after that, hopefully the green part of this expo will go away because green products will be the norm and not the difference.”
19. Pull out from “Eco Tote” tag to colourful bags
STORYLINE:
Environmentally friendly vodka and bio-degradable dog mess bags were among an array of products featured at the Green Expo in New York City on Wednesday.
In midtown Manhattan, more than 70 vendors gathered to display their latest and greatest “green” gadgets.
One popular item was an eco-friendly vodka with its packaging made of recycled materials. The company, 360 Vodka, also includes pre-paid postage for customers to return the swing-top closure on top of the vodka bottle back to the manufacturers for reuse.
Also part of the package is a coaster which has seeds embedded in it. Consumers can place it in a pot, water it, and soon see flowers bloom.
Another big attraction at the expo was the 100 percent bio-degradable dog mess bags.
Josh Spoont, co-owner of Flush Puppies, said the bags were the first of their kind in that they can be flushed directly down the toilet once you’ve cleaned up after your pet.
Eco Geek Living presented an innovative device at the show – a solar-powered laptop charger. Co-owner Malaika Ashecroft said although the price for the charger may be steep at 249 US dollars, the usage was limitless.
“The product requires no maintenance. The energy it uses to operate is free,” said Ashecroft. You can license this story through AP Archive: http://
